Skinny Jeans - Not Sick of Them Yet?
I know I am, especially on guys, and especially after New York Times reports on it. Not only that, the article actually got on the most e-mailed list - that's how you know it's over. Sorry, but it's hard to get pass the 80's hairy rocker thing - like it or not. There are very few who do it well. But, if you have to do it, PLEASE don't wear them with frigging dress shirts, or ANYTHING tucked in, like that New York Times photo shows.

Absolutely not.
I tried them for the first time recently, and the SA actually said (this is no joke): "Those look great! You can see everything." and actually did the raised-eyebrow-two-times gesture. I immediately put them back, and now seek assistance from a different SA.
I absolutely agree with the "especially on guys" bit.
For women, I hope skinny jeans will not be shunned by fashion snobs too soon...(granted, a very small number have already stopped wearing them...but not a significant number). Flare jeans are out and well-chosen skinny jeans go with so much. I suppose there are other styles of jeans besides flare/boot and skinny/straight...such as carrot, or high-waisted, or wider leg...but these do not seem nearly as versatile as the perfect, clean, skinny pair. Do you see any particular type of jeans for females gaining ground in fashionable circles that could succeed the skinny jean? Or do you think that, for the most part, denim styles alternate between skinny/straight and flared/boot over time?
And yeah--that NYT picture is god-awful ;). Good call. Hopefully some males will heed your advice about what not to wear them with!
Elsa,
Thanks for the comment.
In general, I think that one should wear whatever suits them in a certain outfit, so I am not really a proponent of a certain type of any garment, jean s included. Skinny jeans have their place (great for tucking in the boots, for example), and so do other types. But when guys wear them with keds and tucked into shirts into, it is godawful, indeed :-) It's trends that I object to, because most people do not tend to integrate a trendy garment into their wardrobe, but get it for its own sake. It's the "must-have" mentlity that drives them. So, you get an outfit where something sticks out like a sore thumb.
I think the types of jeans will alternate mostly between skinny/straight and flared/boot cut because you need to drive to consumer to buy, buy, buy. I don't think outlandish styles like carrots will have a signficant impact, just because they look silly (meaning, they do not really correspond to human anatomy).
Sorry, I don't understand it very well. What you mean "anything tucked in"? does it mean we should wear it with shirts outside ( to cover the jeans?)I saw Cloak/DH runway shows, they all put the shirts tuck in skinny jeans..I am sorry for my english. I like your blog. Cheers.
